The Eye of the Vampire
‘Sinners’ has been a fan favorite movie by many since its release. What do people think about it?
The movie “Sinners” has been recognized for its use of music as narrative and its cultural background, while also bringing a little bit of mythical horror/thriller vibes to the screen. This is particularly evident in the main character, Sammie, who is being tempted by the devil through music.
A lot of people say that the scene has impacted them in some way, especially younger people who have seen the movie.
“I also really like how they did the many cultures showing how powerful music is and how it connects all humans, no matter what their culture is, some form of music that can bring others together,” junior Christiana Dixon said.
Emma Losco is also another junior who's seen the movie.
“It made me feel very moved seeing music being used to tell a story,” Losco said.
Not only does the music do a great job of telling the story, but the visuals and cinematography also evoke a range of emotions in the viewer while watching. Seeing the movie cinematically and feeling the different emotions within each scene has brought so many feelings to people who have watched the movie.
“Yet if it’s persuasive, it’s because in Coogler’s Wakanda, you are also never far from the reality that’s roiling right outside the cinematic frame,” chief critic Manohla Dargis said in an article for The New York Times.
Cody Allen is also a critic for Rotten Tomatoes who has seen “Sinners”.
“Sinners is a film that aches, that sings, that bares its teeth. It’s messy—yes, even overly ambitious at times—but that mess is its heartbeat,” Allen said.
Both the visuals and the music from “Sinners” are an amazing experience to watch, whether you saw it in theaters or watched it from home. After the movie was released, it automatically blew up on different social media platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram. TikTok was the app that many people saw videos about “Sinners”, especially with many of the songs from the movie being in multiple different TikTok videos.
The movie has had an impact on hundreds, if not thousands, of people across the world who have seen it.
“Before I saw it, I didn’t know what to think of it because I’d never watched a movie from that director before, but a lot of friends were recommending it, and after watching, I can say it’s definitely worth the hype,” Losco said.
Dixon also agrees that the movie has impacted her in ways that other vampire movies haven’t.
“It made me more open-minded,” Dixon said. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. I felt a lot of things afterwards, but mostly excited.”
